How to Change a Metric's Aggregation Type

Your aggregation type controls how Precision combines data points into a single number for goals and pacing. Change it when the default is not calculating the way you need.

Before you start

By default, Precision lets The Operator automatically configure aggregation, pacing, and direction for your metric. To set your own aggregation type, you need to turn this off first.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings, then click Metrics Library in the left panel.

  2. Find the metric you want to edit. Hover over it, then click the three-dot menu on the right side of the row.

  3. Select Edit metric.

  4. Scroll down to the Let The Operator optimize tracking checkbox and uncheck it.

When this checkbox is checked, The Operator handles aggregation automatically and those options stay hidden:

Once you uncheck it, the Aggregation Type section appears below.

  1. Under Aggregation Type, select one of the three options:

  • Sum — adds all values together. Use for revenue, leads, or any metric where the running total matters (for example, new MRR added equals the sum of all daily entries).

  • Latest — uses the most recent value entered. Use for point-in-time metrics like active customer count or current MRR balance.

  • Average — calculates the mean across all entries. Use for rates and scores like churn rate, CSAT, or NPS.

  1. Click Save Changes.

Which should I pick?

Use Latest for balance or inventory metrics, Sum for activity metrics, and Average for rates and scores. If you re-enable the Let The Operator optimize tracking checkbox later, it will override your manual selection.
